Autobiography – creative writing

I was riding my bike chasing my mate like any 11year old kid dose when disaster strikes. It all started on a sunny Saturday morning when my friend Paul knocks at my house he said get your bike so I ask my mum if I could take it out, bad decision. So I went out, about four hours later Paul decides he wants to tease me so me being me couldn't ignore him and chased him on my bike. I was just about to catch him when I went over a curb. The bike and me flew up in the air and somersaulted, I landed headfirst on to concrete then the bike fell on top of me, I screamed in pain Paul turned round and looked in shock for a few seconds. After he realised what had happened he ran in to get his mum. We lived close so when his mum came out he ran and got my mum & dad. Paul's mum came and put a pillow under my head by this time I was all most asleep. Every time I went to fall asleep Paul's mum said, â€Å"wake up wake up†. My dad came running down while my mum rang for an ambulance for about ten minutes before the ambulance came they tried to keep me awake. When it finally came I blacked out. I have not got a clue what happened in the ambulance or when I got out of it. When I finally woke up it was about 4:30 p. m. , I still had not been seen by a doctor. When I did see a doctor he said that he would have to glue my head . I thought to myself â€Å"glue† I mean when you crack your head open you would think that you'd have stitches not glue. When he come back he said he would have to cut my hair . I thought to myself â€Å"first I crack my head open then I find out my head has to be glued and now I have to have my hair cut things could not get any worse. † So I had my hair cut & head glued . By this time it was 6:30pm almost 4 hours after I did my flip on my bike and by this time I was absolutely exhausted I had been thought a lot in one day.

Aids: the Silent Killer

AIDS: The Silent Killer Introduction AIDS is one of the most commonly known sexually transmitted diseases. The last stages of HIV, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, are what we know as AIDS, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. HIV is similar to other viruses like the flu or common cold except the human immune system cannot destroy the virus. The virus can hide in the cells of the body for long periods of time and attacks important parts of the immune system like T-cells or CD4 cells.Once HIV destroys a lot of CD4 cells the human body can no longer fight against infections and diseases. AIDS is diagnosed when the body cannot fight against disease and the patient has one or more specific opportunistic infections (OIs), different types of cancer, or an extremely low number of CD4 cells. HIV lives in specific human blood and other body fluids. If those fluids enter the human blood stream then it is infected with HIV. Blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, breast milk, vaginal fluids, and rectal mu cous contain high levels of HIV.Waste products like feces, nasal fluid, saliva, sweat, tears, urine, and vomit contain HIV but not enough to infect someone; unless blood is mixed with the waste products and there is direct contact with them. People can get HIV from anyone who is HIV positive or infected with the disease. 7 HIV affects most people from having sexual intercourse with an HIV positive person, sharing a needle with someone who is infected, drinking the breast milk of a HIV positive woman, or being birthed from a HIV positive woman. People used to get AIDs from injected blood donors, but now donated blood is screened for HIV. 9 Oral sex is another way people can get AIDs, but only if there are open sores in your mouth or bleeding gums. 10 Discussion HIV/AIDs did not come about until the early 1980’s. The United States was the first country to notice this different virus among homosexual males. 11 No one had any clue what this new virus was, it must have been terrif ying attempting to treat an unknown disease considering you would not know how to protect yourself from the disease as well.In 1982, scientists discovered that AIDS remains a sexually transmitted disease. Not until 1984 did researchers conclude that AIDS is caused by HIV. 12 Although HIV has become somewhat maintainable, during the early years of the AIDs virus a vaccine seemed impossible, and with almost 30 years since the virus first budded its head there is still no vaccine. 13 As I said earlier HIV is a virus, specifically a retrovirus. Retroviruses contain RNA for their genetic material, but once someone is infected the virus uses an enzyme called transcriptase to turn RNA into DNA. 4 The virus then continues to replicate itself.15 People usually do not realize they have HIV because it is a lentivirus and there is usually a long period of time between the time of infection and the sign of serious symptoms. 16 Animals have similar versions of HIV that have made good but not perf ect models of how HIV works. 17 HIV replicates at impeccable speeds creating billions of new HIV viruses to infect the body every day. 18 The virus is able to mutate and evolve which makes it that much harder to defeat the virus. 9 The CD4 cells and T cells are destroyed daily by HIV which eventually causes the immune system to regenerate or defeat infections. 20 HIV is able to hide in the cytoplasm of the cell that it infects or makes its way into the cell’s chromosomes. 21 The virus does this to hide from the immune system so it will not be destroyed. 22 Some drugs have been found to suppress HIV but cannot get rid of it because of HIV’s ability to hide in other cells. 23 Conclusion There is currently no cure for AIDS, but there are treatments available to prolong an HIV/AIDS patient from becoming extremely ill.The main treatment for HIV or AIDS is the antiretroviral drug. 24 This drug needs to be taken daily in order to keep HIV levels low in the body. 25 Patients u sually use combination therapy, taking two or more antiretroviral drugs, so that HIV does not become immune to the drug. 26 AIDS is a very deadly syndrome derived from an evil virus. HIV/AIDS is a powerful silent killer. Everyone should be tested for HIV because that is the only way to find out if you have the virus.

To what extent have the Millennium Development Goals been a success Essay - 3

To what extent have the Millennium Development Goals been a success - Essay Example e MDGs included the eradication of abject poverty, promotion of the achievement of universal primary education, realization of gender equality and eradication of child mortality (German Watch, 2010:12). Improving maternal health, promoting global partnership for development, eradicating the most notorious disease such as Malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, and the promotion of environmental sustainability were also among the set MDGs (German Watch, 2010:12). Thus, this being the year when the MDGs were meant to have been achieved, it becomes necessary to take stock of their implementation, to establish whether the MDGs have been a success. However, it can be argued that; although much progress has been made towards realizing the MDGs, many targets are still unmet. The fact that the MDGs have been achieved to a larger extent cannot be denied. The current success stories coming from Africa, Asia and some parts of Latin America are, goes to show that the set target to realize the MDGs by 2015 has made a greater impact in these regions (Manning, 2009:33). While not all of the success stories and positive transformation in these regions can be attributed to the MDGs, there is no doubt that the MDGs have played an important role in enhancing eradication of poverty and promoting development in Africa, Asia and Latin America (Melamed & Scott, 2011:2). Poverty reduction, as one of the eight goals set for achievement by 2015, is an area where the MDGs have had notable success. The poverty reduction target has had success both in the partnership between the developed and the LCDs in projects that would eradicate poverty, as well s in the prioritization of the poverty eradication programs by the LCDs (Easterly, 2009:27). In this respect, the MDGs have been termed as the most successful story in the eradication of poverty in the global history of policy interventions. The proportion of the people living in extreme poverty has been halved within the fifteen year period, where

Political Ideology and Voting Behavior in the Age of Jackson Essay

Political Ideology and Voting Behavior in the Age of Jackson - Essay Example The majority of all historical accounts depict President Jackson as a strong and aggressive individual who frequently resorted to bullying as a means of championing the causes of the common man. He has been reputed to have bullied the Indians, the national bank, and the states. Despite his strategic and methodic bullying of others, he is remembered as being responsible for bringing democracy to the â€Å"common† white man and championing one of the most poignant and vigilant suffrage movements of all times. His great favor for the common white man can be directly attributed to his humble beginnings. He was a fairly uneducated individual who received formal education sporadically throughout his formative years but was successful in applying himself to the study of law for a period of two years. As a direct result of this, he became an excellent lawyer and gained acclaim. His fame and fortune were a strong testament to the notion that with hard work and perseverance a common man can achieve success irrespective of his beginnings. This fame and fortune, however, was very costly in that President Jackson were greeted with great hostility by individuals fueled by jealousy. This jealousy resulted in the death of a man at the hands of President Jackson when he attempted to defend the honor of his wife, Rachel. President Jackson went on to become a national war hero when he led a brigade which was responsible for defeating the British at New Orleans during the war of 1812. Despite the fact that he did not win his first bid for presidency in 1824, his candidacy was historical in that he was the first individual to lose an election despite the fact that he amassed the most popular vote.3 He went on to become the seventh president of the United States. Since his election in 1828, he has been depicted as a democrat who has gone above and beyond to represent the common, working people with what became known as Jacksonian democracy. At the heart of Jacksonian democracy is the notion that the lion's share of the power to elect the leaders of the United States should reside with the people and not with the Electoral College or the House of Representatives. This notion was made salient by the 1824 loss he suffered when he won the popular vote and lost the election as a direct result of what he considered to be "corrupt bargain".4

Selecting a macroeconomic variable for a country and explaining its Essay

Selecting a macroeconomic variable for a country and explaining its determination using macroeconomics analysis - Essay Example The inflation rates of the country shall be studied over a period of 25 years ending in 2011 inclusive. The selection of the inflation rate of Canada comes in at a very ripe time and with so much significance and importance as global economic experts continue to blame inflation as a major dictate of the world economic climate (Botric and Cota, 2006.). It is therefore anticipated that this study would eventually end up as a guide for economic policy makers within the country to ascertain various ways in which inflation has affected Canada’s economy in times past and how it affects it today so that based on these, they can make prudent economic decisions for Canada in the future, using inflation rates. Dependent variable Inflation is a determining component for the relationship that exists between value and price (Grigorian et al, 2008). Generally, an economy that is growing so fast would see a situation whereby prices of goods are pushed to a protracted time ahead of the prevai ling utility value of goods and services. The rate of which such pushes take place may be defined as inflation (Fischer et al, 1998). Because inflation is likely to distort prices and undermine the market exchange by it creates an unclear relationship between value and price, economists have usually tagged raw inflation as a bad phenomenon. Countries with relatively lower inflations are thus said to be doing economically well than those with higher inflation rates. It is in light of this that most countries have worked towards achieving low inflation rates as against higher inflation rates. The case of Canada’s inflation from 1987 to 2011 is presented in the graphs and charts below. Source: Trading Economics (2013) The scattered graph above gives the trends of inflation rates for Canada in a 25 year period from 1986 to 2011. A tabulated analysis presenting the specific inflation rates on a monthly basis from 1990 to 2006 is also presented below for vivid depiction of the spec ific numbers. How does The Aeneid confirm values that Polybius described as the Essay

How does The Aeneid confirm values that Polybius described as the sources of Roman greatness or success - Essay Example Then, there was also gradual integration and absorption of conquered people into Rome. Lastly, they made a gradual expansion until they reached their borders. Polybius was a Greek historian who moved into Rome after the deportation of Greeks into Italy. He was therefore able to move to the Roman circles and witness major campaigns in the Mediterranean region. This gave him a great opportunity to analyze the principles beyond the Roman great success. In order to be successful, Rome avoided the culture of tyranny by having a mixed constitution in which in a single state there are three forms of government which include the monarchy in form of elected executives, aristocracy represented by the senate and democracy in form of popular assemblies (Phiz). The ambitions and human resources of Rome were growing at the same time. This made the leadership difficult to challenge for years. As a result Rome organized its plans well and developed a security complex which would enable it take rid of all its aggressors. The other success factors for the Roman Empire were fate, determination fate and selflessness on the part of its leaders. It will be wrong to ignore the fact that Rome had very great naval ships and strong navy personnel who could traverse many regions and put them under their captivity. At times they even relied on foreign mercenaries especially when they were dealing with overseas countries. The Aeneid is the Roman epic poem which talks about the founding legends of the Roman Empire. One such legend is Augustus a title given to Octavian signifying a savior who had brought peace to Rome by ending civil war. The Aeneid presents many parallels to the rise to power of Augustus for instance the civil war, the destruction of the Troy, the wanderings of the Aeneas, destruction of the republic and finally the creation of peace in the country. The Aeneid is therefore a pro-Augustan propaganda since Virgil uses it for propaganda about roman heroes to come and

The effects of Employee satisfaction on Productivity, Performance, Research Paper

The effects of Employee satisfaction on Productivity, Performance, Customer satisfaction and the organization financial performance - Research Paper Example Any changes caused to any one of the above parameters may have strong impacts upon other parameters. Even though an organization may have lot of resources, human resources or the employees seem to be the most vital one because of the necessity of employees in mobilizing all the other organizational resources. In other words, employee performance and productivity is linked with the mission, vision, objectives and goals of the organization. Only the satisfied employee may deliver his maximum productivity for the betterment of the organization. Dissatisfied employees may not perform well and their reluctance in delivering the goods, may affect the customers of the organization. Dissatisfied employees may not treat the customers well which may result in dissatisfaction of the customers and the subsequent drop out of customers. The loss of customers may cause heavy financial damages to the organization. In short, employee performance can make or break an organization. This paper analyses the importance of employee satisfaction and its impacts on Productivity, Performance, Customer satisfaction and the organization financial performance.... re are direct and quantifiable links between customer service variables (such as satisfaction and loyalty), employee variables (such as satisfaction, enthusiasm, loyalty, commitment, capability, and internal service quality), and financial results (Linking Employee Satisfaction with Productivity, Performance, and Customer Satisfaction, 2003, p.1) Employees are the only active element in an organization. All the other organizational resources are passive and need the support of human element to deliver the goods. In other words employees are the drivers who drive the organizational resources in a particular direction to meet the organizational goals. If the drivers or the employees are incapable of driving the vehicle properly, it is difficult for the organization in reaching the target or meeting the goals. Only the satisfied drivers will keep the vehicle in good condition by driving the vehicle safely and effectively. Dissatisfied drivers will never bother much about the conditions of the vehicle or the negative impacts of crazy driving habits. Proper driving will help the vehicle owner to reduce maintenance cost of the vehicle which will increase his profits. â€Å"The Watson Wyatt Worldwide Human Capital Index study suggests that effective human resources practices lead to positive financial outcomes more often than positive financial outcomes lead to good practices† (Linking Employee Satisfaction with Productivity, Performance, and Customer Satisfaction, 2003, p.2). Many people often raise the question - which one evolved first; hen or egg? The same question is asked in the organizational world also – whether good human management practices lead to better organizational performances or better organizational performances lead to good human management practices? The principal powers available to the courts in England & Wales in Essay

The principal powers available to the courts in England & Wales in connection with statutory interpretation - Essay Example The literal rule means that the words in the statue are given their ordinary and natural meaning .I t is supposed that if some extraordinary meaning was to be given to a particular word, the lawmakers would have specified it in the statue and if they have not; then the ordinary meaning of the word should be followed. The 18th and 19th century saw a trend towards the strict implementation of the literal rule for the statutory interpretation. This was the era in which the supremacy of the Parliament had been established and courts were reluctant to give any other meaning to law other than the one which had been explicitly stated by the parliamentarians. In the Sussex Peerage Case of 1844 the court made the observation that if the words of the statue are precise and unambiguous; then the courts do not need to interpret them in any other way or take a broad view of the words used in the statue. The court observed in the above-mentioned case that the words of the parliament give the best indication of the intention of framing the statue, no further exploration of the intent is required by the courts of law.1 The literal rule has been hailed by many jurists as well as the law commission. This rule is said to have encouraged precision in drafting of the statues. It also ensures that law making remains the preserve of the elected representatives of the people and the courts are not able to give a new direction or definition to the law. The judge it is argues should not be given the flexibility to take a broad view of the law as it is not their function to make laws. However the law commission of 1969 was critical of the courts for relying too heavily on the literal rule2. The commission observed that there are many limitations of language which should not become the ground for denial of justice. The judges will be abdicating their responsibilities if they were to give more weight age to the words rather than to the intent with which the law has been framed. The Golden Rule If after applying the literal rule of statutory interpretation the courts arrive at a result which is absurd or arbitrary, the courts can substitute a new meaning in place of the absurd result. This is called as the Golden rule of the statutory interpretation. The Golden rule of the statutory interpretation ensures that the intent of the law makers is given precedence over the actual words which are used in the statue. The Adler vs. George case of 1964 is considered as a classic example of this rule’s interpretation.3 This case was concerned with the conviction of a person under the Official Secrets Act of 1920 in which he was charged with creating nuisance and hindering the work of officials in the Royal Air Force Station. The official secrets acts said that a person who creates hindrance in the ‘vicinity’ of a Government installation is liable for punishment. The defendant claimed that he

The United States and South Korean view on North Korea Essay Example for Free

The United States and South Korean view on North Korea Essay Abstract: Since the declaration of North Korea’s nuclear experiments, many countries have reacted negatively towards the subject. Most concerns have come from the United States and South Korea, as the two countries have close ideologies on North Korea’s policies. Relatively, the North Korea’s history had its focus on military power, politically. The strategic location of the country around the Sea Japan 50 nm on maritime force and the mountainous terrains between Russia, China and South Korea, makes the area isolated from the influences it could get on the political aspect. Its current leader, Kim Jong IL, has permanently believed on the Juche and Independence. Hence, its subsequent actions towards other countries have been very open in accordance to its motivations. Tying up with the concrete documents and studies on North Korea’s geopolitical position, the observation of United States and South Korea remains concurrent and comprehensive. Historical Background:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Before, North Korea has existing ties with the Soviet Union, giving the country a chance to exploit the relationship of United States and the Soviet Union. However, the wind suddenly blew away from the North Korea’s political objectives, as Soviet Union diminished its relationship with North Korea in the 1980’s. It leaves the country of no military alliance to a powerful country and becomes isolated for a very long period (wiki.galbijim.com, 1993). Because of the subsequent negative events on North Korea, the decision to make talks with South Korea became inevitable in 1984 leaving the South Korea-U.S. team military exercise cancelled in June 1992. Following this action was the Declaration of Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula on December 31, 1991, which bans the testing, manufacture, production, possession, storage, deployment, receipt, and use of nuclear weapons on the peninsula (wiki.galbjim.com, 1993).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Its resistance to be absorbed by the South Korea’s growing economic success has mediated the motivation of North Korea to make efforts of military advancements, which serves nuclear power as a choice of military force. As the news of nuclear testing in North Korea spread, United States declared a deadline for the country’s submissive alliance to their policies (english.ohmynews.com, 2006). North Korea’s nuclear test in October 9, 2006 has been the desperate option of North Korea to avert a threat in regime collapse and the reunification to South Korea (Jae Hoon, 2006). Objectives: To observe differences between the South Korea’s and United States opinion on North Korea nuclear tests. To describe how the sea power and air force of North Korea has developed after its separation from the Soviet Union. To determine the reasons for its obvious resistance from South Korea’s growing opportunities of political power. To analyze the future methods planned by the United States government against North Korea’s political strategies. To distinguish which countries have the volition over North Korea’s desperate actions concerning military and political methods. Technical Approach:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   This research will examine different sources coming from North Korea’s web archive, the United States’ CIA World Fact book, and articles containing the geopolitical stance of North Korea. Furthermore, it will reexamine the geography and its influence to North Korea’s capability upon its engagement on warfare. Tables, maps and appendices will also be provided when necessary. Women are portrayed as powerful Essay Example for Free

Women are portrayed as powerful Essay William Shakespeares play Macbeth is set Scotland in the eleventh century. The play is about the protagonist Macbeths, bloody rise to power, through the murder of the Scottish king, Duncan. Macbeths ambition is to become king. In the play there are both powerful, manipulative and unnatural women portrayed by the likes of Lady Macbeth and the witches and the not so powerful and more traditional portrayal of females such as we see in Lady McDuff. The witches are portrayed as having ultimate power over Macbeth and the way in which they make potions, mixtures and use magic which makes them quite unnatural as this is not something an ordinary human would do. Lady Macbeth is shown as the more dominant figure with lots of power and is manipulative and a unnatural character. However after the murder of King Duncan she is overwhelmed by the guilt and begins to lose power, and is less manipulative over Macbeth. Lady Macduff on the other hand is the complete opposite of Lady Macbeth and the witches and is portrayed as being a stereotypical women from the eleventh century. She has very little power and perceived as being a normal female of the time. At the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth is a strong, powerful and manipulative person and she is more controlling than her husband Macbeth. Generally in the eleventh century, males are more domineering and powerful over females but that was not the case in Macbeth. Lady Macbeth seems to have more power than Macbeth as she successfully changes Macbeths mind to kill king Duncan through her manipulation Look like th innocent flower but be the serpent under it. Lady Macbeth is very unnatural as she want to be filled with cruelty to go through with the deed. Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts! unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty. Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth where he states he is having thoughts of killing Duncan but he does not say that he will. Lady Macbeth decides to take the matter into her own hands because she wants a better title for herself. She is stronger minded than Macbeth as she knows that although Macbeth is an ambitious person he is too noble to be able to go through with the deed himself. She manipulates his self-esteem by playing with his manliness and his bravery. However towards the end of the play and after the killing of King Duncan she is overwhelmed by guilt and losses all her power and Macbeth appears to be the more dominant character. She becomes more natural and less manipulative after her guilt catches up with her. Throughout the play the 3 witches are portrayed as having ultimate power and are very unnatural in the way they use magic and prophecy to control and manipulate characters such as Macbeth whom they control through addicting him through prediction of his future which he completely believes they have the power to do. At the beginning of the play the witches greet Macbeth as Thane of Glams, Thane of Cawdor and as King of Scotland. This prophecy leads Macbeth to genuinely think about being in control and having power. After Macbeth received the news that he was Thane of Cawdor he built a trust with the Witches as he now believes they were right about everything. Macbeth continued seeing the witches to see what his future will hold, speak, I charge you. The witches are portrayed as being unnatural and unhuman like as they make all different kinds of potions and eat unusual mixture. in the cauldron boil and bake; eye of newt and toe of frog. The Witches therefor are very powerful, in the way they control Macbeth and manipulate him in his desperation for power. They are also very unnatural and demonstrate unhuman like behaviours in the way they eat unnatural things. Lady Macduff is the complete opposite to Lady Macbeth and the witches and is portrayed as being a stereotypical women from the eleventh century. Lady Macduff has no power, is submissive and is portrayed as a natural female. Lady Macduff cares about her son and has maternal instinct, to leave his wife to leave his babies from whence himself does fly? She is protective of her son and is a traditional mother figure. Lady Macduff is loyal to Duncan and Scotland and cares about the welfare of the country. In a conversation with Ross Lady Macbeth says, His fight with madness. When our actions do not, out fears do make us traitors. She is so loyal to Scotland that she considers her own husband a traitor for leaving the country and believes that every traitor should be hanged. Everyone that does so is a traitor and must be hanged. Lady Macduff is the opposite to being powerful, manipulative and unnatural as she lets her husband take the lead and essentially needs him for living.

Julius Caesar Essay: Reaching from the Grave -- Julius Caesar Essays

Reaching from the Grave of Julius Caesar It is assumed that the title of a work should reflect the nature of its content. The title should relate to the to the central influence which controls the flow of the work. Shakespeare's Julius Caesar seems to contradict that convention. Caesar meets his bloody end at the hands of conspirators in the first scene of Act III, barely halfway through the play. He is not the tragic hero; that distinction lies with Brutus and Cassius, around whom the play revolves before and after the assassination. This essay will show that although Caesar is not the hero of this tragedy, he certainly is the title character. Like the storm in the first scene of The Tempest, Caesar's victory over Pompey at the beginning of Julius Caesar sets the workings of the plot into motion. The plebians and senators become increasingly separated in their loyalties. In a time of brutal civil war, the plebians feel they need a single strong ruler such as Caesar. The senators, on the other hand, fear that he might become ambitious and continue killing off his competition, i.e., the senators themselves. At the celebration of Caesar's victory, Brutus remarks, "What means this shouting? I do fear the people choose Caesar for their king" (I.ii.78-79). Cassius turns bitter towards Caesar, because he thinks Caesar is physically weak, and deserves none of the praise that the public heaps upon him. Very early on, Cassius mistrusts Caesar, and becomes just as ambitious himself as he fears Caesar to be. Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world Like a Colossus, and we petty men Walk under his huge legs and peep about To find ourselves dishonorable graves. Men at some time... ...art mighty yet! Thy spirit walks abroad, and turns our swords in our own proper entrails" (V.iii.94-96). Scene v shows Brutus finally giving in and joining his fellow senators in death, unable to bear the grief of their loss nor the guilt at killing Caesar in the first place. Thus Caesar, though dead and physically gone, remains a powerful presence throughout the second half of the play. The guilt that he inspires in the conspirators, and the vengeance he stirs up among the plebians, force the play to its tragic conclusion. This is the only way that Julius Caesar can remain the title character, by maintaining a powerful influence throughout the play, whether dead or alive. Shakespeare called the play Julius Caesar not because Caesar is the tragic hero, but because it is Caesar's ambition, his downfall, and his presence after death which cause the tragedy to occur.

The Forge and the Satis House in Great Expectations Essay -- Great Exp

The Forge and the Satis House in Great Expectations   Ã‚  Ã‚   During the Victorian Age in England, individuals revealed their class and prestige by flaunting their money, yet they were only disguising their inner character with the riches. Strong relationships are a key to a fulfilled life; in Dicken's Great Expectations, the contrast of the Forge and the Satis house uncover that happiness is born through relationships with others and not through money.    The Forge's simplicity contributes to a simple existance of those who live in it. To begin Pip's journey through life, he resided in a plain wooden house that was like many of the houses around it. THe house did not contain many posessions, yet the space was filled with the love and bond between Pip and Joe. The family did not need more than the basic necessities of life to get by. Pip's imagination was forced to develop as a result of this simplicity, and he expanded his ideas in the process.    Unlike the Forge, the Satis house was frozen in time and the emotions within the walls were frozen as well. ...

Social Constructivism Essay example -- Education, Teachers Training

Vygotsky's (1978/1981) social constructivism (SC) theory suggests that teachers can use an alternative instructional method by engaging students with a set of approaches and strategies. Vygotsky’s SC approach reflects on creating a learning setting which, allows students to negotiate meaning through learning by doing to facilitate wireless computing within the classroom (Woo and Lim, 2009). Teacher training and input in their personal view points on technology integration professional learning experiences are essential for constructive changes (So & Kim, 2009). Teacher training and point of views through the social constructivism (SC) theory can create opportunities to provide hands-on learning and enables students to access electronic books, study, review, research or explore through SC concept (Zucker & King, 2009). Ryu, Parsons, Li, Sheng & Javed (2009) found that the antidote to learning, requires referencing prior knowledge to recent experiences, referencing different situations to similar, past situations, and then incorporating what one has learned to the past foundation. A foundation upon which to build needs to be established first to construct planned activities (Kundi & Nawaz, 2010). The social constructivism (SC) approach makes it possible for teachers to meet online, share ideas, prepare lesson plans and activities using different software packages (Moses, Khambari, & Luan, 2008). Dewey (1916/1997), Papert (1993/2000), Piaget (1932/1997), and Vygotsky’s (1978/1981), social constructivism (SC) theory illustrates that the teacher guides the learner during the learning process rather than instructing through traditional lecturers. Wellings and Levine (2009) established that technology literacy i... ...s. Children, preteens and teens naturally network with devices and interfaces that were not available a decade ago (Wellings & Levine, 2009). Wireless computing using laptops in the instructional setting creates room for the teacher to assume the role of facilitator (Woo & Lim, 2009). Teaching with wireless laptops guides learners to become self-driven and transform a passive learning setting to an active learning setting (Skevakis, 2010). As facilitators, teachers can ensure that their students’ tasks performances occur in an appropriate social constructivism (SC) manner. The SC approach places students as active participants in their learning process (Mileva, Simpson, & Thompson, 2008). Current research can help develop a plan and concept of the deliberating rate of integrating wireless computing (So and Kim, 2009) through an OSN for K–12 teachers.
